If you work at home like I do, you know that when it comes to your business, you need the same products that any other office or corporation needs. However, sometimes you deal with the whole "what do I need" or "how much is this going to cost me" inquiries. Of course the products you choose from are going to completely depend on you and what kind of a business you have, how many transactions you have and if you have clients coming to your house or if it's all done through the Internet -- those are the main questions you should be asking yourself. First off you can BUY whatever you want. It's YOUR home office. So if you really want a big executive desk? Go for it. It's going to make you look professional and it's going to make you feel good - hey, feeling important is good sometimes! Here are a few basic additions you might want to consider:
- One main thing that comes to mind is the desk. You can choose from all kinds of brands, designs, styles, colors and materials. Frankly, I like to stick with wood because it gives the room a more "warm" feeling, rather than that of a metal desk. Also, I like to choose from darker colors, but you can choose whatever colors you want. My entire office is full of furniture. I have a black desk, black leather chair, red "thinking" chair, several laptops and printers that are varying colors and a few other items. Remember it's YOUR office. Have whatever items you want!
- Next is the chair. It's always a good idea to choose a chair that is comfortable and that you can sit in for a long period of time - if you DO sit in it for a long period of time. I hardly ever leave my chair during working hours, so I have a really nice black leather chair that is Ergonomic, it also has a massager for those days when my back is bothering me. Ergonomic chairs are designed to conform to your spin which results in blood circulation and less stiffness. An essential item indeed!
- Partition is needed! Since I do work at home, sometimes family members might think its okay to "bother" me. Unfortunately I don't have a door because it's the way our house is set up, so I decided to buy a partition to place at the end of the room. This gives them warning that they must knock before entering - or to not bother me at all between the hours of so and so! It also keeps the dogs out as well...
- Organization options. This is also a much needed option for your home office. If you are not organized, you need to start being organized. Remember, you are running your own business. Would you be a CEO working at some place like Google and have a messy office and desk? Doubtful. Instead, you would utilize options such as filing cabinets in order to become more organized. You can also choose from an array of options when it comes to these as well; size, colors, textile, etc.
The first thing you may be thinking is, "wow, I don't have enough money for ALL this!" And these are just the basics! If you have a home office, you might want to consider refurbished office furniture or refurbished office cubicles.
